Mologne House Courtyard Program

Mologne House Courtyard Acknowledgements

These acknowledgements demonstrate how the civilian community from all over the country came together to meet the need for our service members and their families to enjoy this beautiful Courtyard.

Ed Quinn, Washington, D.C., obtained the funding to underwrite the program. Major contributions underwriting the program are from

Prudential, Newark, New Jersey,

Daniel and Karin Akerson, McLean, Virginia,

Bill and Joanne Conway, The Carlyle Group, Washington D.C.,

Clark Charitable Foundation, Bethesda, Maryland, Courtney Clark Pastrick,
Executive Director, and

Clark-Winchcole Foundation, Bethesda, Maryland, Vincent J. Burke, Jr., President.

Other generous contributions, that helped finish the job, are from

Vincent Browning, R&R Mechanical, Bladensburg, Maryland,

Frank Battaligno, Metro Test and Balance, Capitol Heights, Maryland, and

Mike McReady, JCM Associates, Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Denis Neill, Bethesda, Maryland, worked full-time on the Courtyard, overseeing every aspect of the entire Courtyard.

Brendan Quinn and his team at the Ernest Maier Company, Bladensburg, Maryland-Ken Cook, Mike Schmidt, and Hank Keeney-put together the basic plan for the Courtyard. They recruited volunteers and contributors of goods and services to make these improvements possible. Ernest Maier Block is by far the largest contributor of goods and services for the project. Brendan Quinn's and Ken Cook's dedication kept the program alive and they personally arranged for most of the in-kind contributions.

George W. Stephens, Jr. and Associates, Hunt Valley, Maryland, offered its employees, particularly Todd Hyer, to provide countless hours of landscape architectural and design services, surveying services and consulting to enable us to meet all standards applicable to construction on historical U.S. Government property in Washington, D.C.

Pete Curro, owner of Woodfield Landscaping, Forest Hill, Maryland, donated many days of design, management services and supervision, and his key employee, Mike Southard, oversaw the construction and installation of the Courtyard. The wonderful crews that did the work are H-2B program guest workers from our neighbor to the South, Mexico.

E.P. Henry, Inc., Woodbury, New Jersey, provided the beautiful paving stones and block walls for the entire Courtyard. J.C. Henry and Lance Malesh approved substantial subsidies for these materials. Debbie Willette arranged for the engraving of the paving stones by Pristine Products, Franksville, Wisconsin, owned by John Dziekan.

The employees, family members and friends of BAE Systems, Arlington, Virginia, under the direction of Rebekah Nottingham, provided most of the funding for the Playground. Cliff Plummer supervised every aspect of the excavation and construction. Operation Homefront, San Diego, California, and the Armed Forces Association, Arlington, Virginia, contributed significantly to the Playground.

The Home Builders Care Foundation, Silver Spring, Maryland, coordinated by Executive Director Patti Kane, gave the Gazebo to the troops. Bill Kuper, Kuper Construction, Clifton, Virginia, provided the installation of the Gazebo. The extraordinary paver art honoring Mrs. Mologne is the product of PaverArt, LLC, Swedesboro, New Jersey.

The most generous supporters include companies whose products are essential but which you do not see. Vincent Browning and R&R Mechanical, Bladensburg, Maryland, provided the drainage pipes and contributed cash to pay for the installation of those essential materials. John Whiteman, Associated Marketing, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, arranged for the contribution of other drainage products.

Savage Stone, Laurel Maryland, and Vulcan Materials, Springfield, Virginia, provided base stone for the patios and walkways. Stephen Render of Vulcan Materials also arranged for hauling much of the materials.

The American Builder, a production of The Comcast Network, Lowell, Massachusetts, produced by Rob Haley and hosted by Brian Gurry, has chronicled the entire Courtyard improvement program, from start to finish, and they will present it on a special one-hour program on July 4, 2008, that demonstrates the support of the civilian community throughout the country for our men and women in uniform.

The bluestone for some of the beautiful countertops was provided by Badolato Stone, Cockeysville, Maryland, at specially reduced prices approved by Sam and Kathy Lauderdale. Jeff Stevens and Fire Rock Manufacturing, Birmingham, Alabama, contributed the fireplaces and E.P. Henry, Inc. provided the exterior veneer.

John Murray, owner of Counter Intelligence, Inc., Silver Spring Maryland contributed the measuring, transportation and installation of the bluestone. His key employees, Omar Barnhart and Nelson Flores, rearranged their schedules completely to install the counters in time for the Grand Opening. Their attention to detail is appreciated by all.

David Warner, Warner Marketing North, Greencastle, Pennsylvania, and Brad Ortman, Ortman's Inc. contributed the Napoleon barbeques and the Fire Place, Gaithersburg, Maryland subsidized the cost of the Fire Magic Aurora grills. Vito Services, Rockville, Maryland, provided the gas lines and installation at specially reduced prices approved by Michael Vito and Jim Vito. Danny Clokey, D.C. Logs, Laurel, Maryland, provided the essential safety connections to assure that the barbeques and fireplaces met the standards applicable to Walter Reed. Finally, Frank Battaligno and Jim Kelleher, Metro Test & Balance, Capitol Heights, Maryland, modified the grills to adapt them to the much greater use that the wounded warriors and their families are giving them.

Bob Schmid, Nightscaping, Inc., Redlands, California, and Mike Hartman, Hartman Design, Wernersville, Pennsylvania, contributed electrical supplies, including the beautiful night lighting, and Ken Hirrlinger arranged for Hirrlinger Electric to install the electrical products at cost.

Mike Buckler, R&F Exteriors ("Better than Wood"), designed and manufactured the railings for the ramped walkways, enabling us to comply with all Federal standards and to complete the Walk of Appreciation in time for the Grand Opening.
