As we pause to remember those who perished during and in the aftermath of the attacks, let us also recognize the brave men and women who, in the days, months, and years following, stepped forward to defend our country. They answered the call of duty with unwavering dedication, embodying the spirit of service that defines what it means to be an American. Their sacrifices remain a beacon of courage, a testament to the enduring strength of our nation.
No One Left Behind
The attacks on 9/11 ignited a new era of military service. Thousands enlisted to defend our freedoms, deploying to some of the most dangerous and unpredictable battlefields in modern history. These brave Americans faced grueling conditions, confronting the constant threat of harm from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) all while carrying the values of freedom, justice, and patriotism close to their hearts. Their mission was not only to protect our way of life but also to honor those who lost theirs on that fateful day.
The stories of heroism, sacrifice, and unity are woven into the very fabric of the American spirit. As we honor the fallen, we also stand firm in our commitment to the living—those veterans who continue to inspire us with their resilience and dedication. These heroes, who sacrificed so much, must never be forgotten, whether on the battlefield or at home. It is our duty to ensure that no man or woman is left behind.
Freedom Is Never Free
As we commemorate this day of remembrance, let us not forget that although the war in Afghanistan may be over, the battle to protect our freedoms continues. Many of our service members remain stationed overseas, upholding the values of liberty and justice on behalf of all Americans.
Freedom is never free—it is defended by the brave men and women of our military who face immense challenges daily to protect our way of life.
Their service, courage, and commitment remind us that we must remain vigilant in our support for those who have sacrificed so much. These veterans return home with visible and invisible wounds, relying on the strength of their families and their communities. We must continue to stand by them.
Honoring Our Heroes—Today and Every Day
Each year on September 11th, we are called to reflect on how we can support our veterans, not just in the moment, but throughout their lives. The transition back to civilian life is often filled with challenges. Veterans, caregivers, and military families deserve our unwavering support as they navigate these challenges—be it through physical recovery, mental health care, or the difficulties of reintegration.
For nearly two decades, Yellow Ribbon Fund has been at the forefront of this effort, offering resources to those who need it most. Our organization was founded to meet the needs of catastrophically wounded service members and their families, ensuring that they are not left behind.
To date, we have served over 40,000 military families, providing essential support through our Crossroads Program, which offers transportation and housing at no cost to families while their loved ones receive medical treatment. Through the Keystone Program, we address the full spectrum of needs that our veterans and their families face—offering life skills training, financial literacy courses, career development, mental health services, peer-to-peer support, and so much more. These programs are essential to empowering our military families, giving them the tools they need to rebuild their lives and thrive in the aftermath of service.
We Stand Together
As we remember September 11th, let us renew our commitment to our nation’s heroes. Through our actions and support, we can ensure that no one is left behind. Together, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our veterans and their families, ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten and that they are given the support they so rightfully deserve.
Freedom is never free, but it is fiercely defended by those who serve. Let us honor them today and every day by standing with them—strong, united, and resolute.
